Plateau Building Derriford Hospital

In 2006 Noel worked with the Arts Co-ordinator at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth undertaking a consultation project linked to the new Cardio-Thoracic wing. A requirement of the project was the need to engage the widest cross section of patients, staff and public in devising names and a wayfinding theme for the new building. This was achieved through a combination of visual displays, informal ideas sessions, creativity workshops, presentations and a great deal of listening.

Conducting the consultation was invaluable in gathering ideas and opinions, not just about the new building but also the wider hospital environment as well. With such a diverse range of users it was not easy to arrive at a solution that was agreeable to everyone. However the consultation allowed the final choice to be made, a scheme based on the unique landmarks and history of the South West, with the confidence that it had received widespread support.
